Boss Guide

*Evil laugh* So you all wish to know the secrets of battle? Very well. Read, and learn.

Guts Man: A str- ah, you know. "YEEHAW!!!!"
Health Level: 1700
Speed: Medium
Movement Range: All enemy Panels
Attacks: Guts Hammer (Summon Attack), Guts Punch (Secret Chip Attack), Guts Machine Gun
Suggested Chips: Repair
Suggested NC Blocks: Air Shoes
Suggested Souls: Wind/Metal
Element: Breaking

Man, Guts Man's been learning a few new tricks since the Cybergeddon incident. Anyway, Guts Man is a bit different this time around. For one, he won't get stunned by attacks, so you can't cancel his attacks. Guts Man's most common attack is the Guts Hammer. He will raise his fists, and slam them into the ground. This will cause a few panels on your side of the field to be cracked, and will cause three rocks to fall from the ceiling. Avoid them as best you can. Guts Man will also occasionally punch you with the Guts Punch if you are unlucky enough to be in the rightmost column of your area. I suggest that if you have to move into that column, that you make it quick. Another annoying attack is the Guts Machine Gun. Guts Man will bring up his arm and fire a flurry of bullets straight ahead. This attack is very easy to avoid, since it's easy to tell when it's coming. But it is very powerful. Just stay on the move.

Fire Man: Match's Number One Navi. "Heat and Flame got nothing on me."
Health Level: 1700
Speed: Fast
Movement Range: All enemy Panels
Attacks: Fire Storm (Summon attack), Fire Bomb, Fire Tower, Fire Circle
Suggested Chips: Anything Aqua
Suggested NC Blocks: None
Suggested Souls: Search/Aqua
Element: Fire

Fire Man has had much training since the last time we saw him. Has it made him a better navi? You betcha it has. Curiously, though, he hasn't learned many new attacks. He still uses the Fire Storm, which is where he raises his two arm cannons and fire a fire blast across all the panels in front of him, which can still be avoided by moving up or down. He still uses the fire bomb, which is where he fires off two bombs from his head which set the panels they hit aflame on impact, which can still be avoided easily because it is easy to tell where they will land. And he still uses the Fire Tower, which is a flame attack that is slow following, but can follow you, but is easy to avoid nonetheless. But he does have one new attack. When his health is below the halfway mark, he will move up to the leftmost column of his area, and use the Fire Circle. A Fire Tower will go in a square pattern, hitting all of your panels except the middle one. So go in the middle one to avoid this attack. Keep dousing him, and he'll be a goner.

Aqua Man: Aqua Navi of Chibiness. "I am Chibi, hear me roar."
Health Level: 1800
Speed: Fast
Movement Range: All enemy panels
Attacks: Aqua Blaster, Aqua Upper (Secret Chip Attack), Aqua Fountain (Summon Attack)
Suggested Chips: Anything Electric, Area Steal, Metagel, Piercing chips
Suggested NC Blocks: None
Suggested Souls: Thunder/Metal
Element: Aqua

In this corner, it's Aqua Man, the newest navi to claim the "Cute, but annoying as hell" title. (Held by Ice Man, Toad Man, and Bubble Man in previous games) Aqua Man will start the battle by teleporting around. Then he will start using the Aqua Blaster. This is where he fires a Water Balloon two panels forward, hitting the panel it lands on, and the panel behind it. He will use this attack repeatedly. And I mean about every few seconds. Every so often, Aqua Man will use the Aqua Upper. He will throw a ball which will land on the current panel you're on. It will break the panel it's on, and will hit all surrounding panels. If it hits the middle panel, you’re screwed. Unless you area grabbed some panels with Area Steal or Metagel. The powerful attack in Aqua Man's arsenal is the Aqua Fountain. Aqua Man will summon fountains in the leftmost column of his area. He will either create two (One in the top row, one in the bottom row) or one in the middle row. The fountains will send out blasts of water. Just avoid them as best you can. And keep hitting Aqua Man. His attacks might not be the strongest ones there are, but he never lets up.

Number Man: Calculating navi "3.141592653589732384..."
Health Level: 1600
Speed: Medium
Movement Range: All enemy panels
Attacks: Dice Roll (Summon Attack), Number Ball (secret chip attack), Delta Boomer
Suggested Chips: Wide Sword and similar, Invis
Suggested NC Blocks: Reflect and similar, Attack Max, Charge Max
Suggested Souls: Wind/Proto
Element: +/-

In Mega Man Battle Network 1, Number Man was the weakest navi in the game, easily beaten and S ranked. But now, in Mega Man Battle Network 4, he has gone under some training. Because he is ONE OF THE HARDEST NAVIS IN THIS GAME!!!!! Seriously, he will piss you off more than once. But I'm not here to complain. I'm here to give you the upper hand. Number Man's signature attack is the Dice Roll. Number Man will throw a die in your area. This die will explode in a 3x3 square shortly after landing. The strength of this attack is determined by the number the die displays. Just get out of the way, or destroy the die before it explodes. Next comes the attack that will make you hate Number Man with a passion: The Number Ball. Number Man will go to the back row, and release three balls. Each of these balls have a number on them, and they move forward. In order to avoid this attack, you must use Invis, or destroy one (or all) or the Number Balls. You can use the charged shots the Wind/Proto soul to destroy all three balls at once. He uses this attack several times in a row. Number Man's final attack is the Delta Boomer. Numer Man will pull out a triangle and it will fly forward and off the screen. However, if you are in the back column, it will fly in a boomer's flight pattern. Quite annoying, really.

Spark Man: Living Conductor "SHOCKING!!!"
Health level: 1800
Speed: Fast
Movement Range: All enemy panels
Attacks: Spark Bomb, Spark Shock (Summon attack), Spark Image
Suggested Chips: Wood chips, chips that don't require aiming, time freezing chips
Suggested NC Blocks: None
Suggested Souls: Search, Wood
Element: Electric

I'll be honest: This guy is a pain in the ass. When you go up against his SP form, you'll be dieing more than a few times before you defeat him, much less S rank him. He moves by teleporting. But not the conventional teleporting. He'll disappear for a few seconds. Then he'll appear in a random spot in his area, and fire a Spark Bomb. A Spark Bomb is a forward moving projectile that explodes in an X pattern when it gets close to you. To avoid the explosion, go above, below, or beside it. Then he'll disappear again. After a while, he'll use the Spark Shock. The Spark Shock travels in a pattern that goes along the panels in a "Go up the column, move left, move down the column, move left, etc." pattern. To avoid, go to the top row in one of your columns. Then as soon as the Spark passes, move forward. If you time it right, you should go unharmed. When Spark Man is low on health, he'll use the Spark Image. He'll raise his conductors above his head, and there will be a great flash. Then after the flash is over, there will be a shadow of you right behind you. He will attack with a wide sword attack. To avoid, move forward.

Top Man: Old Fart "Why, back in my day (insert rant here)"
Health Level: 1600
Speed: Medium
Movement Range: all panels
Attacks: Jigoku Top, Mini Top, Top From Above (summon attack)
Suggested Chips: Panel breaking chips, Invis
Suggested NC Blocks: None
Suggested Souls: None
Element: None

You know, the old man can fight. He'll start by moving around at a slow pace. Then he'll lift his cane, and start spinning! Literally. He'll be in top form, and he'll come into your area spinning, try to ram into you. This is called Jigoku Top. There are two ways he can do this. He's either move straight forward, bounce off the back of your area, and go back, or he'll move like an Air hockey chip does. Just get out of his way. After a few Jigoku Tops, he'll summon a few Mini Tops. Mini Tops are three little tops that will attempt to hit you. They will all enter you area at the same time, attempting to hit you. If you're lucky, you will be able to avoid this, though I suggest using an Invis chip, so they can't hit you. Top Man will follow this up with the Top From Above. He will jump into the air, and come down upon your head. The panel he will land on will turn yellow, so you have plenty of time to move out of the way. There is one thing you must remember: Top Man's attacks are mainly ground traveling attacks, so holes will stop his attacks.

Roll: Mega Man’s Girlfriend “Aishiteru, Rock Man”
Health Level: 1500
Speed: Fast
Movement Range: All panels
Attacks: Attacks: Roll Teleport, Roll Arrow (Secret Chip), Roll Flash (Summon Attack), Enemy Summon
Suggested Chips: Chips that don’t require aiming, chips that hit multiple enemies
Suggested NC Blocks: None
Suggested Souls: Search/Number
Element: Recovery

You know, I gotta agree with Lan on this one: Something about fighting against Roll does seem wrong. But you know what? This girl can fight. And damn well too. Her movement is teleporting around. But every so often, she’ll spin around. This is the Roll Teleport. It doesn’t really do anything special. It just throws off the rhythm of the fight. Her most basic attack, Roll Arrow, isn’t very strong. But you should avoid it at all costs. Because if you get hit by the Roll Arrow, all chips you have currently selected are automatically destroyed. Imagine having 5 powerful chips, ready to be unleashed. Then you get hit by Roll Arrow. Bye bye unleashing…. Anyway, Roll’s second attack is the one she’s been using since BN1. She’ll teleport right in front of you and use those things coming out of her head to slap you around. This attack actually does quite a bit of damage. Just be thankful she doesn’t recover energy when she uses this attack. When about half of her energy is gone, Roll will use the Enemy summon. She will use the Roll Teleport, but she when she reappears, there will be a virus in tow. So far, the only virus I’ve seen her summon is a mettaur. It’s not really a problem. Just keep on hitting her and she’ll lose.

Wood Man: Big Woody “I STILL like wood. ^_^”
Health Level: 2500
Speed: Fast
Movement Range: All enemy panels
Attacks: Rolling Log, Wood Pellets, Woody Tower (Summon attack/Secret Chip attack)
Suggested Chips: Fire Elemental Chips, Invis or similar, Rock Cube or similar
Suggested NC Blocks: Break Buster
Suggested Souls: Fire/Metal
Element: wood

Wood Man has been growing in skill since we last saw him in BN1. He’s much tougher, and much faster than last time. Anyway, Wood Man moves by jumping from panel to panel. When he firsts jumps, two logs will roll from the back row of his area towards you. These logs will take up two columns each, so you’ll have to avoid quickly to avoid getting hurt. Of course, if you have the Break Buster NC Block, or are in Metal Soul, then you can destroy these logs with no problem. And if there is an obstacle is the way, the logs can’t reach you. Sometime, after he jumps, he will fire the Wood Pellets at you. This is where he fire Seeds at you. Just get out of the way best you can. After jumping three times, Wood Man will jump VERY high, and land. When he lands, some your panels will flash yellow for a few seconds. Get off of those panels immediately! Because after a few seconds, the Woody Tower will rise from the ground, and attempt to skewer you. Remember, Wood Man has a lot of Health, so hit him hard and fast to take him down before he chops you down.

Burn Man: Freakin' Pyromaniac "MWAHAHAHAHA!!! BURN!!!! BURN IT ALL!!!!!!"
Health Level: 1700
Speed: Burn Man: medium, Burners: Fast
Movement Range: Burn Man and Burners: All Panels
Attacks: Burn Man: Burner (Summon Attack) Thrust
Suggested Chips: Aqua Chips, Objects, Breaking Chips
Suggested NC Blocks: None
Suggested Souls: Roll, Aqua
Element: Fire

Every Battle Network game has had a new Fire navi. And each one was operated by Mr. Match....well not this time. This one is operated by someone else.....and you know what? THIS ONE IS ANNOYING!!!! He is very hard. But it's not him. It’s his stupid burners!!!!!! *ahem* Anyway, enough ranting. Burner Man on his own is a very easy opponent. Those burners of his, however, make things more difficult. There is one Burner in the top row, and one at the bottom row. The burners will go at alternating intervals from being in Burn Man's back column too being in your area. It'll go into the same column as you, and light fire, which takes up the whole column. Then the other Burner will come. There are two ways to deal with these. You can either place an Object in the way of the burner so it can't get to you, or you can destroy it with piercing chips. Burn Man himself has only two attacks. One his were he'll go to the same row as you, and fire a flame at you. It will reach two panels in front of him. Just go to the back column, or into a different row. Burn Man's other attack is where all those burners on him will propel him forward. He will dash right towards you. Twice. Just get out of the way. Or you could use a Slasher chip. Just remember one thing: Burn Man isn't dangerous: Those ****ing burners are.

Video Man: Living VCR "Do it again, but with more feeling!"
Health Level: 1700, Film HP of 1
Speed: Medium
Movement Range: Films: Two middle columns of the area, Video Man: Two back columns of enemy area
Attacks: Video Roll (Summon attack), Play Video, Fast Forward, Rewind
Suggested Chips: None
Suggested NC Blocks: None
Suggested Souls: Guts/Number
Element: Normal

Video Man fits into the "Major Annoyance" factor. In the two middle columns, there are two strands of tape. These tape strands are shields. They will stop any attack that hits them. And they regenerate very quickly if they are destroyed. Fortunately, they have only 1 HP each. Video Man's attacks are simple. A spindle will appear every so often in your area. When this spindle appears, move away from it. It will begin to spin, hurting all surrounding panels. Also, Video Man will occasionally create a Mega Man copy in front of Mega Man. If it is one panel in front of you, it will attack with a sword. If it is two panels away, it will attack with a twister. If it is three panels away, it will attack with an Energy Bomb. Just move up or down to avoid it. When Video Man is down to half health, he will do one of two things. He will either use Fast Forward, which makes him a lovely shade of red, which makes him VERY fast, or he will use Rewind, which makes him a lovely shade of blue, and causes his health to gradually regenerate. But by the time he uses those, it's too little too late.

Cold Man: Mini Fridge "Popsicles anyone?"
Health Level: 1700
Speed: Slow
Movement Range: All panels
Attacks: Ice Cube, Cube Toss (Summon attack) Mist, Fridge Jump
Suggested Chips: Airshot, Junk Man, electric chips
Suggested NC Blocks: None
Suggested Souls: Wind, Junk
Element: Aqua

Cold Man is pretty cool (Pun not intended). Anyway, his attack pattern is very basic. He starts by summoning Ice Cubes. These act as shields from direct attacks. Then he'll start pushing them at you. Just get out of the way. Eventually, he'll open the fridge on his chest, and clouds of mist will come out, and attempt to hit you. Avoid em if you can, because sometimes it's damn near impossible. Luckily, they don't go backwards, so you only need to avoid each one once. Then Cold Man will tuck his hands and feet in, and jump right on top of you. Just get the hell out of the way, because this attack hurts. Then he'll start all over again. Though there is a trick you can do to make this battle very fast. If you use Airshot (Or Wind Souls normal shot) on the Ice Cubes, they'll be sent forward. So you can ram them right into Cold Man. Or you can use Junk Man (Or Junk Souls Charged Shot), you can launch the Ice Cubes at him. Trust me, it kills him quickly.

Kendo Man: Famous Navi "You will call me Kendo Man Sensei!!!"
Health Level: 2000
Speed: Medium
Movement Range: All Panels
Attacks: Dash, Slash, Training
Suggested Chips: None
Suggested NC Blocks: None
Suggested Souls: Thunder/Junk
Element: Normal

The first thing you'll probably notice about Kendo Man is his odd moving style. He doesn't teleport like most Navis. He instead moves from square to square, either up, down, left, right, or diagonal. This may be an upside or a downside. He doesn't too much time one panel, but you'll know where he may be going. Anyway, his attacks are quite basic. The most common attack, Dash, is where Kendo Man will run right at you, at and hit you in the head with his Kendo Stick. He will do this whenever you both line up in the same row, so avoid doing that. If you are in the rightmost column of your area, Kendo Man will use his Slash attack. He will rush to the left most column of his area, and attack with a wide sword like attack. Stay out of the left most column. Every so often, Kendo Man will unleash his most devastating attack: Training. Time will freeze for a moment, and the word training will appear. This is where you get to move like mad. Kendo Man and two "Shadow Kendo Men" will appear in you area, and attempt to hit you. Just keep moving up and down repeatedly. It'll eventually become like a pattern: up, up, down, down, etc. Just stay on the move to show Kendo man who the real sensei around here is.

Shade Man: Vampire "Prepare to face the darkness"
ElementHealth Level: 1500
ElementSpeed: Slow
Movement Range: All Panels
ElementAttacks: Noise Crush (summon attack), Murkland Bats, The Hand of Evil
ElementSuggested Chip: Gunsol Chips Series
ElementSuggested NC Blocks: None
ElementSuggested Souls: Search/Number
Element: Dark

Shade Man is truly a navi consumed by Darkness. And the darkness absorbs most damage towards him. If you hit him with a charged buster shot or a chip, he will split into four bats. One of these bats can actually be hit for damage, but guessing which one it is is indeed a difficult task. Anyway, the only chips that can hurt Shade Man without this happening are the Gun Sol chips, so you should be using a lot of those in this battle. Anyway, onto Shade Man's attacks. Noise Crush is Shade Man's most common attack, and can in fact be used right after his other attacks. This attack will start with his spreading his mighty wings, and then he will release a sound wave that hits the panel directly in front of him and the three panels on the next column. This attack pierces through Invis, and can cause paralysis or confusion. Another attack of his, Murkland Bats, is where he will release several bats that will turn towards you when they're in the same column. To avoid, wait till the last second, then move. Or use Invis. Shade Man's final attack, The Hand of Evil, will only be used when Shade Man is at low health. A Hand will come out of a hole in the panel in front of or behind you. It will then attempt to strike you. Just move out of the way. Be very careful, lest the darkness smother you.

Laser Man: Dark Navi of Light "Let Darkness Shine"
Health Level: 2200
Speed: Slow
Movement Range: All Panels
Attacks: Ground Laser, Ceiling Laser, Shining Laser (Summon attack), Dark Laser
Suggested Chips: Invis, Gunsol Chip Series
Suggested NC Blocks: None
Suggested Souls: Wind/Metal
Element: None

You know, this guy deserves the spot of Nebula Leader Navi. Anyway, his most common attack is the ground laser, which is where he will move as close as he can to you and fire a laser. This laser will hit the panel 2 panels in front of Laser Man, cracking the panel. Once this laser hits the panel, the laser will spread into a cross shape. To avoid this, go diagonal of the panel the laser will hit at. Also, if you break the panel, if Laser Man attempts to fire at that panel whilst it is still broken, the laser will not spread. After a few ground lasers, Laser Man will unleash a giant (emphasis on the giant) laser towards the sky. This is known as the ceiling laser. While the laser itself will not hurt, the aftermath will spell doom for you. The ceiling laser will cause a series of rocks to fall from the sky. They do a lot of damage. Avoid them at all cost, or activate Invis. However, while this is going on, Laser Man will unleash the Shining Laser. This attack is where time will freeze (as if a navi chip were activated) and Laser Man will fire a laser forward. What makes this attack truly dangerous is the fact that it pierces through Invis. This comes with little to no warning. Avoiding it is mostly luck. When Laser Man reaches half health, he will activate Dark laser. Dark Laser will make a dark hole appear in his area. While the dark hole remains on the field, Laser Man will gradually gain health. Luckily, the dark hole can be destroyed with a gunsol chip.
